How the phases work

Registration opens in phases, each for a different group: families with a child already in the school, then those with parent or sibling connections (alumni, school/community volunteers, affiliated organisations), and finally the general public. Each phase only proceeds to the next if places remain. Knowing which phase you qualify for tells you how competitive your situation is.

Distance and citizenship tiebreakers

When a phase is oversubscribed, places are allocated by home-to-school distance (typically within 1km, then 1–2km, then beyond) and citizenship (Singapore citizens are prioritised over permanent residents, who are prioritised over non-citizens). These tiebreakers, not a first-come queue, decide tight phases — so proximity and citizenship status matter.

Plan early and realistically

Look at the school's previous years' balloting to gauge how competitive each phase has been, and be honest about your phase and distance. If a popular school is a stretch, having a realistic backup avoids a stressful scramble. Some families weigh volunteering or community ties well in advance, though these aren't guarantees.
