Lesson 3 of the LearnUp AEIS English series — a complete 90-minute vocabulary lesson, pitched at the harder end of Secondary 2 entry and aligned to Part 2 of the AEIS paper (the vocabulary and cloze section). It opens with a 12-item diagnostic, then teaches five ways to attack an unfamiliar word: reading the four kinds of context clue (definition, contrast, example, and cause and effect); breaking a word into prefix, root and suffix to unlock both its meaning and its part of speech; weighing connotation — the positive, negative or neutral shade a sentence calls for; using natural collocations; and telling apart the confusable pairs that cost easy marks (affect and effect, principal and principle, stationary and stationery, and more). A six-exercise worksheet moves from meaning-in-context multiple choice through word formation, root matching, connotation, collocation and confusable editing, and is followed by three worked walk-throughs that decode a hard word step by step. The homework mirrors the AEIS paper: a ten-item vocabulary multiple-choice set, an eight-blank multiple-choice cloze passage, and a word-formation task. All material is original LearnUp content. How to use it

Follow the method in the workbook — read aloud, cover-and-recite, check, sleep on it, recite again the next morning. One paragraph per day, six days a week, finishes the workbook in under a month. On exam day, pick the paragraph that matches the prompt's emotion, swap the marked words, add a sentence either side. Done in under a minute.
